The Prophet's Song is the 8th track on A Night At The Opera and written by Brian May. His composition may be the longest Queen song ever (not including Track 13 on Made In Heaven).
When it was released in North America, the band thought the song would stay completely normal without being edited at all, but they were wrong. Because when released as a single in Canada, like Bohemian Rhapsody, EMI, the band's first label (1973-1986), thought the track was too long to be released as a single in Canada and needed to be shortened in order to be released as a single in that country. Unlike Bohemian Rhapsody, which was released as an "unedited single", lasting 5 minutes and 55 seconds, The Prophet's Song was instead edited and shortened to 5 minutes and 27 seconds. Then, came a 12" version which means extended, released in 1991 and lasting 11 minutes and 34 seconds. This version can be found on the 1992 compilation album, The 12" Collection.
